Our Club

Welcome

Established in the late 60's MBC is one of the oldest badminton clubs in Montreal. We are a non-profit recreational & competitive club which plays twice a week in downtown Montreal. Our goal is to promote health and wellness through fun and excercise.

Our members are friendly and our board system caters to individual players who want to come alone or with friends and play against other players. One thing we will ask you though is to follow the code of conduct.

Advantages of Badminton

  • Your body needs to move and burn calories to maintain healthy muscle and bone strength. This will be a good compliment to stretching exercises such as Yoga or Pilates.

  • Improve cardio vascular strength and reflexes.
  • Improve your hand to eye coordination.
  • Share a fun activity with a partner

The level of play ranges from beginner/intermediate to advanced and players should play with members of equal calibre in a fun yet competitive atmosphere. We are an adult club age ranges from 18-55 men and women. If you're looking for a friendly/competitive club, check us out- it's fun and will keep you fit! The Montreal Badminton Club uses a peg system. We have 6 courts and players generally play doubles or mixed doubles. Players play 1 game of 21, typically players will play with players of the same calibre or strength to make games more enjoyable. If courts are available then players may play singles. You may choose your own games or ask the board monitor to choose one for you.

We also have a video on how the board works in the media gallery section.

  1. When players arrive first thing they must do is place their tag and put on left side of the board to indicate they are present.
  2. The first person in line chooses their game or can take a pass to the end of the line if they do not wish to choose.
  3. Do not loiter around the board if its not your turn to pick.
  4. Sit relatively close so that you can hear your name when called to pick your game, if you do not respond within 3 tries you lose your turn.
  5. Bring birds back to the table when finished or give them to the next group.
  6. 2 to 3 minute warm up then games must start immediately thereafter.

Code of Conduct

Here at the MBC we strive to make our club the best place for a social/competitive club in a fun/social/competitive environment. Therefore, we must impose a strict code of conduct on our members in order to maintain a pleasant environment. Those who do not abide by these rules will have their membership revoked without refund. We have a zero tolerance policy towards those who misbehave or behave in an inapprorpiate manner towards others be it verbal or physical. If you've been a victim of this please report to anyone of the executives below.

  1. Respect other members and guests on and off the court.
  2. Settle all personal conflicts and disputes in a private away from other members and guests.
  3. Any type of physical violence will not be tolerated, failure to comply will result in an immediate termination of your membership without refund.
  4. No verbal abuse of any kind will be tolerated towards other members and guests. Do not offer unsolicited advice or verbally harass other players.
  5. Throughout the night if you encounter any problems or have concerns about another member or guest, please bring them to the attention of the executives (see below).
  6. Players have the right of refusal and we can not force other members to play with you. If they decline to play with you, then ask someone else until you have a group of four. DO NOT COMPLAIN TO US IF YOU'RE NOT GETTING GOOD GAMES!!!
  7. We use a board system with all members tags attached color coded according to their level of play. Please familiarize yourself with how it works. If you have any questions please speak to an executive member.
  8. At the end of the night, if you are the last person on the court, please help to take down the nets and put away the poles.
  9. Please keep all wet and dirty boots/shoes downstairs by the main entrance. DO NOT wear them upstairs into the gym. Let's do our part to try and keep the facilities as clean as possible.
  10. The MBC executive is here to make sure that the club runs as efficiently as possible and to make sure the social atmosphere is maintained. We unfortunately will not be able to keep everybody happy all the time. If you aren't getting good games, don't complain to us, there is nothing we can do. (See point #6 ).
